Blameless is living up to its name by providing a service reliability platform that supports core cultural tenets of DevOps -- specifically empathy and blamelessness in response to production failures -- that may have gotten overlooked in the rush to ever-faster delivery automation and the hyperscale operation of complex applications.

Laying claim to a “Complete Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) platform” is a tall order. Still, as extended DevOps teams must keep Hybrid IT deployments alive and well amidst a state of constant change and risk, Blameless may be onto something here.

The typical post-mortem ‘what went wrong’ retrospective exercise can easily lead to blaming and finger-pointing, rather than encouraging teams and individuals to discover -- and even celebrate -- failures as a way to continually improve delivery going forward... [Read more]

When we last covered Cockroach Labs in December 2018, it was already touting its resiliency and immediate consistency, making it suitable for maintaining state for Kubernetes nodes.

In the intervening time, the company has matured its flagship database, CockroachDB. It is now finding traction as a cloud-native alternative to earlier-generation SQL databases, both for Kubernetes deployments as well as database replacement initiatives that seek to leverage the... [Read more]

Since we last covered HashiCorp in September 2018, the company has continued to mature its suite of open source infrastructure products, including Terraform, Vagrant, Consul, and several others.

Its recent news: an update to Vault, its dynamic secret management product. Vault manages secrets and protects data, not only in traditional static infrastructures, but also in dynamic, cloud-native environments as well.

Vault controls access to encryption keys and other secrets by authenticating against existing trusted sources of identity and then enables fine-grained authorization via the... [Read more]

Magalix accelerates the planning (day 0) and deployment (day 1) phases of enterprise Kubernetes rollouts by scanning the existing Kubernetes configuration and automatically making recommendations for optimizing capacity planning, security and policy configurations, and overall cluster and observability parameters.

At the center of the Magalix approach are ‘advisors’ which make recommendations based upon consolidated best practices. Magalix provides a number of such advisors, and customers can create their own as well.

Magalix also provides recommendations for Kubernetes... [Read more]

The faster markets shift and customer expectations change, the faster enterprise leaders need answers. Those answers, however, typically require a convoluted data analytics infrastructure to slowly churn away to deliver them. The result has been a lag of as much as several months between question and answer for most organizations.

Promethium aims to help enterprises overcome this lag and “just answer the *&$^# question!” The company claims that its solution allows organizations to dramatically streamline this process by helping them discover, validate, assemble, and collaborate as they surface questions and the data that will answer them. According to the company, its approach enables its clients to transform a process that would typically take... [Read more]

Pulumi provides an open source provisioning platform and a managed team service for orchestrating policy-based infrastructure-as-code deployments.

Billing themselves as “superpowers for cloud” their platform allows developers to specify infrastructure in whatever languages they naturally use, including JavaScript, Python, Go, C# and TypeScript. Pulumi’s engine manages and orchestrates build-outs on any cloud IaaS (AWS, Google, Azure, many others), Kubernetes cluster, or on-premises hardware in a declarative manner similar to aspect-oriented development.

These IaC stacks can be merged into CI/CD pipelines... [Read more]

Major enterprises are starting to look toward serverless modes of application delivery as a means of regaining the agility of disruptive startups. But a real serverless transformation isn’t as simple as farming out some AWS Lambda functions.

Stackery provides a serverless delivery platform for architecture, development, integration and security of a palette of more than 20 different... [Read more]

Enabling a digital workplace with low-code platforms

ZOHO Virtual Roundtable, featuring Jason Bloomberg
Date: April 28, 2020

Tuesday, April 28, 2020

Welcome to our new virtual roundtable series—Tech Table Talks—where we discover how low-code platforms can help businesses in digital transformation. These sessions are open to all, and offer an opportunity to engage with exciting tech and business leaders from across the globe. We hope these talks provide you with some fabulous insights!.

The Digital Workplace
Let’s dive into the first topic of our series

The impact that COVID-19 has brought on business is profound, and its complete effect on the economy still remains to be seen. While organizations are trying to meet their immediate needs, the pandemic has activated a new wave of digital transformation.

Organizations are now being forced to accelerate their efforts to provide their employees with a workplace that’s physically distributed, but virtually closer than ever before. New working patterns and behaviors are developing, ones that are likely to remain even after the dust settles–and this presents opportunities for businesses.

This demand for custom, mobile-centric solutions in the workplace has led to the increasing adoption of low-code platforms. Low-code platforms let business users and IT specialists build applications with modern user interfaces, integrations, data, and workflows that are easy to use.
